In 1998, AmRest acquired Yum! in the Czech Republic. This acquisition was key to our growth. Thanks to our determination, we have rapidly become an incredibly profitable company.

In the year 2000, the merger of Yum!’s 52 restaurants and of ARS’s 28 restaurants gave rise to AmRest NV. Before long, we became a company employing 3,200 people. In 2001, AmRest acquired International Fast Food Polska Sp. z o.o. (IFFP), the Burger King operator in Poland.

In April, 2005, AmRest made its successful debut on the stock exchange and Yum! ceased to form part of the company. A month later, we bought 8 restaurants belonging to Big Food Ford in the Czech Republic and we turned them into KFCs. Then, in 2006, we opened our first Freshpoint restaurant in Warsaw.

And, in April of that same year, we opened our first Rodeo Drive restaurant in Wrocław. In May, AmRest signed an acquisition agreement with Kentucky Systems Kft., the owner of 13 Pizza Hut and 4 KFC restaurants in Hungary.

In March 2007, we opened our first Burger King restaurant in Poland. At the same time, we became Starbucks partners. In July, we made inroads in Russia, where we bought 22 KFC restaurants and 19 Pizza Hut restaurants in 3 cities: San Petersburg, Moscow and Kazan.

In November, we opened the first AmRest KFC restaurant in the Bulgarian market in Sofia. That same month, we opened our first KFC restaurant in Belgrade, Serbia.

In January 2008, we opened our first Starbucks in Prague (Czech Republic). At the beginning of the year, we signed final agreements to acquire 14 more KFC restaurants in Moscow. In May, we carved a niche in the US market through the acquisition of 80% of Applebee's capital. We opened the first Burger King restaurant in Bulgaria and in the Czech Republic. Our next goals: Slovakia and Slovenia.

On 7 April 2009, we opened the first Starbucks cafeteria in Warsaw, Poland.

Our efforts were recognised by one of the main private capital investors in the world, Warburg Pincus. Following a long, exhaustive due diligence process, Warburg Pincus was also convinced of the originality of the AmRest culture, as well as of the incredible growth opportunities we offer and proposed to us an investment of more than 300 million PLN in AmRest and the purchase of 24.99% of AmRest’s shares. Another success in 2010 was the opening of the first Starbucks in Hungary.

In 2011, AmRest bought shares in the Spanish company Restauravia. The company is the owner of 30 KFC restaurants and of the Italian casual dining concept: La Tagliatella. In 2012, we opened our own La Tagliatella restaurants in new markets: France and Germany.
In December 2012, we acquired a majority holding in Blue Horizon, the owner of one prosperous Chinese brand in the casual dining sector: Blue Frog.

In 2013, AmRest opened its first Stubb's restaurant in China. That year, we opened a total of 89 restaurants, our all-time record. Altogether, we now had 733 restaurants, of which 99 were already managed by our franchisees.

In January 2015, we opened the first restaurant with the Pizza Hut Express concept in the Sfera Gallery in Bielsko-Biała (Poland). In the middle of the year, AmRest took over the operator of the Starbucks cafeteria chain in Rumania and Bulgaria.

In May 2016, we became the operator of 144 Starbucks cafeterias in Germany, enabling us to mark another milestone and clock up over 1,000 restaurants in our portfolio. In the middle of the year, we opened our first cafeteria in the Slovakian market.
AmRest became the master-franchisee of the Pizza Hut brand for Express and Delivery type premises in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2018, AmRest incorporated into its portfolio of own brands Sushi Shop, a European leader in its sector. Sushi Shop boasts more than 20 years’ experience, with a presence in 11 countries and more than 170 restaurants.
